What works in policing, drawn from the data instead of a picture.
Every tile below is computed live from the 275 studies on cebcp.org. Hover a cell to see what is in it, switch the lens to see how rigor changes the picture, then ask the Matrix a question in plain English.
The Matrix
Realms of effectiveness
Cells with at least 5 studies, ranked by share of effective or mixed outcomes under the current lens.
Where the evidence is thin
Empty and sparse cells are research opportunities, not verdicts.
Map an agency's tactics onto the Matrix
Paste what a unit or agency is actually doing, one tactic per line. The assistant codes each on the three axes, explains why, and shows the evidence in that cell.
Evidence-Based Policing Playbook · revised June 2026 · linked to the Matrix
Every play, with the evidence behind it
The 17 plays from the CEBCP Playbook, each mapped to its Matrix cell and to the studies that test it. Plays with thin or out-of-scope evidence say so. When a new study enters the Matrix, the plays in its cell are flagged automatically.
Crime prevention plays
Trust and confidence plays
The Matrix includes only studies with crime or disorder outcomes, so legitimacy and trust evidence is out of its scope by design. These cards show the nearest crime-outcome evidence and say so.
Draft a new play from the evidence AI draft
Describe a recurring condition. The assistant retrieves effective and mixed-result Matrix studies, drafts a play in Playbook format, and cites each step. The MDP team edits before anything is published.
Matrix Workbench
The editorial side of a living Matrix. Candidate studies arrive continuously; the assistant pre-screens them against the inclusion criteria, proposes coding with its reasons, and drafts the summary in house style. Two human coders still decide.
Screen a candidate study
Paste an abstract or a methods and results section. A sample is loaded so you can run it immediately.
Screening result
Results appear here: criteria checklist, recommendation, suggested Matrix coding, a draft summary, and anything a human must verify.
